Rachel and Lane are high school sweethearts who have been together since they were just 16 years old! After navigating a long-distance relationship throughout college, they were more than ready to marry their best friend. In May, that long-awaited moment finally arrived, and it was every bit as meaningful as they had imagined.
As lovers of animals and the outdoors, Rachel and Lane wanted a wedding venue that reflected the life they enjoy together. They found the perfect fit at Shinnyville Hill, a rustic venue perched atop a hill overlooking acres of southern Indiana farmland. It was my first time photographing a wedding at Shinnyville Hill, and the views were absolutely breathtaking! I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to document such a beautiful day.
A Faith and Family-Filled Wedding Morning
Rachel and Lane spent the morning surrounded by the people they love most as they prepared to say “I do.” Rachel got ready at her parents’ home with her mom and bridesmaids, while Lane’s mom helped him with his bowtie and boutonniere. Before heading to the ceremony, there was even time for a few candid portraits of Lane and his groomsmen.
Their ceremony took place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Newburgh, Indiana, and was every bit as meaningful as the morning leading up to it. Family and close friends played special roles throughout the service, including the sweetest flower girl. One of my favorite moments from the entire day was seeing Rachel and Lane’s faces light up as they met at the altar. Rachel’s mom walked her down the aisle, making the moment even more personal and heartfelt.
Following the traditional Catholic ceremony, everyone made their way to Shinnyville Hill to celebrate the newlyweds.
A Spring Wedding at Shinnyville Hill
The grounds at Shinnyville Hill feature two peaceful ponds, rolling green fields, and sweeping countryside views, creating the perfect backdrop for Rachel and Lane’s wedding portraits. Exploring a new venue alongside them was such a fun experience, and every corner offered another beautiful location for photos.
The reception was held inside the venue’s modern barn, where Rachel and Lane embraced a simple, romantic design that complemented the space beautifully. Spring wildflowers appeared throughout the celebration, paired with a soft color palette of robin’s egg blue, lavender, and dusty pink.
Wildflowers became a charming thread woven throughout the entire wedding day. They appeared on the couple’s paper goods, decorated their wedding cake, and were even embroidered onto the white Converse Rachel changed into for dancing. Her bouquet tied everything together with a loose, garden-inspired arrangement of blue hydrangeas, white field daisies, and purple wildflowers.
