Is there anything more romantic than returning to the place you met to tie the knot? AJ and Chenchun did just that, and I had the honor of capturing it! The college sweethearts’ elopement at Indiana University was the perfect culmination of the first chapter of their story. They spent the day in each other’s company, reflecting on their time as IU students, enjoying their favorite treats, and anticipating married life.
Elopement at Indiana University
AJ is a second-generation IU alum—his parents both attended the school! The campus was also a significant location in their love story: his dad proposed to his mom inside the iconic Rose Well House. In honor of AJ’s family history, he and Chenchun exchanged their vows in the same place. The location of his proposal, and the couple’s first and second dates, wasn’t far, either! The wooded spot was one of our first stops during their portrait session.
This elopement took place at the peak of fall, when the leaves were at their most vibrant. The trees surrounding the Rose Well House formed a golden backdrop that shone behind AJ and Chenchun as they took turns reading personalized vows. Then, just before exchanging rings, the couple had a wine box ceremony! They sealed letters to each other and a bottle of their favorite Moscato into a customized wooden box, to be opened on their fifth wedding anniversary.
After AJ and Chenchun signed their marriage license, I joined them on a sentimental walk around campus. As the newlyweds strolled through the woods hand in hand, danced in front of the Rose Well House, and paused to enjoy the view from atop a stone bridge, I captured every kiss and shared smile. But the day wasn’t quite over yet! For our last stop—the Memorial Stadium—the couple changed into head-to-toe IU gear.
