This is key since you have to make sure your photographer is available on the date you need one. Most photographers include a date inquiry field in their contact forms, so you’ll likely get this answer early in the process. I recommend looking for your photographer 12-14 months before your wedding date, especially if you are planning a summer wedding here in Indiana. May-October is our busy wedding season here in the Mid-West, so Saturdays book up quickly. Timing is everything, and starting here will save you both time and energy!
Can you see a full gallery?
While online portfolios are a great way to get a sense of a photographer’s style, they’re often just the highlights. Asking to see a full wedding gallery gives you a better idea of what you’ll actually receive after your big day. You’ll get to see how they capture every moment, from the tiny details to the biggest celebrations, and how they tell a complete story through their work.
I also think it’s worth checking to make sure their editing style is consistent throughout the gallery. You don’t want photos that look dramatically different! It also allows you to see how they work in both ideal lighting conditions (hello, Golden Hour!) and harder lighting conditions, like inside a venue reception. Consistency shows not only their expertise as an editor but also their commitment to delivering a polished, professional final product.
