For two proud alums, an Indiana University surprise proposal is about as romantic as it gets! I’m so glad I was there to capture the moment Trevor proposed to Jordyn right in front of the iconic Sample Gates. As a Bloomington wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy of documenting everything from intimate elopements to heartfelt proposals like this one on the IU campus. With its historic architecture and lush gardens, Indiana University is a stunning place to pop the question. It also provides the perfect backdrop for capturing timeless engagement photos afterward.
Indiana University Surprise Proposal
While Trevor came up with the idea to propose at Indiana University on his own, he knew he’d need a little help to pull off the surprise. So, he looped Jordyn’s parents into the plan! Just before the couple walked through the Sample Gates, they scattered rose petals in the center of the archway. Meanwhile, I waited just out of sight, camera ready, to capture Jordyn’s reaction the moment Trevor dropped to one knee.
After the proposal (she said yes!), the couple’s dog joined us for a few quick photos. I love when couples include their pets—whether it’s during a proposal or on their wedding day—because they’re part of the family too.
From there, we took a relaxed stroll around campus for an engagement mini-session. Trevor and Jordyn walked hand in hand, revisiting their favorite spots and reminiscing about their college days. Along the way, I captured every shared smile, laugh, and kiss. It was such a sweet afternoon and the perfect way to kick off this exciting season of engagement.
