This intimate Bloomington wedding was such a joy to photograph! Nikki and Sam have one of those almost instant “when you know, you know” love stories. Their deep connection and close-knit relationships with their families were clear all day. It began with vows exchanged at Beck Chapel on the Indiana University campus, followed by a simple outdoor reception at Oliver Winery.
Nikki and Sam met on Hinge when they were both still living in the South, but in different states. They talked on the phone every single day for a month before meeting in person—the same night Nikki left Georgia to move to Bloomington. Sam followed soon after, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. When an evening conversation revealed that they wanted to marry each other, a sweet new chapter began.
Couple Portraits on the Indiana University Campus
Although Nikki and Sam aren’t originally from Bloomington, Indiana University has come to hold a special place in their hearts. Both are academics, and Sam is currently pursuing his PhD while teaching classes. So, the campus made perfect sense as the setting for both their ceremony and couple portraits.
If you’re familiar with my work, you know I’m no stranger to shooting on the IU campus! From senior portraits to proposals to elopements, I know where to find the best backdrops (and on an almost 2,000-acre campus, there are many). So, I couldn’t wait to photograph Nikki and Sam’s couple portraits there.
After their Beck Chapel ceremony, we took time to explore the campus. As we wandered over historic bridges and under a canopy of green trees, I captured their natural interactions. I love photographing newlyweds. The excitement in every glance and the affection in every touch shine through in the images.
Intimate Bloomington Wedding Reception at Oliver Winery
Oliver Winery, located north of Bloomington, was the perfect spot for Nikki and Sam to celebrate with their guests. Easily accessible from the IU campus, it has picturesque grounds that also make a gorgeous proposal setting. It was a warm June evening, so everyone enjoyed an open-air meal of local pizza and cake while a harpist played.
After Nikki and Sam cut the cake, I couldn’t resist whisking them away one last time for portraits at Oliver Winery’s beautiful lake!
