Lizzie & Ben’s wedding at Brown County State Park was a wedding as unique as they are! Ben and Lizzie met through a mutual friend, who introduced them because they were both tall (Ben is 6’3″ and Lizzie is almost 6′). Luckily they had more in common than just their height! After they met in October 2013, they spent a few years long distance. Lizzie was finishing her master’s in Bioarchaeology at the University of Indianapolis and working at The Children’s Museum. Ben was working on his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Purdue. When Lizzie got accepted to a Ph.D. program to study Anthropology at Penn in 2015, she moved to Philly, and they were really long distance for almost a year.
Later, Ben got a job in a research lab in New Jersey and they were able to finally live in the same city in 2016, and have lived in Philly ever since. Both of them lived in Indiana for their entire lives since Ben is from Valparaiso and Lizzie is from Indianapolis. They absolutely love Philadelphia, and as a couple they spend their free time together watching movies, walking around the city, hiking in state parks, eating lots of wonderful food, baking, and going to events like plays and operas. They also love traveling and try and do as much traveling as they can in their spare time. Both of their respective sets of parents still live in Indiana. Ben is an only child, and Lizzie has one sister, who is her twin! Having their wedding at Brown County State park made perfect sense for them and their families.
For their wedding, they wanted to celebrate their love story at Brown County State Park. It was important to Lizzie to have the wedding close to her hometown. They both got ready separately with friends and family before seeing each other for their first look. I love that Lizzie chose her wedding dress as her something blue! She wore a beautiful lace dress by Needle & Thread that had a soft blue lining and blue ruffle accents. It was the perfect complement to her bridesmaids, who wore white lace dresses.
I love when my couples choose to do a first look because it is such a sweet and special moment for them to share before the nerves of walking down the aisle set in. As a wedding photographer, it also gives us a special time before the business of the wedding day. We are able to relax and just let the couple enjoy each other’s company before the day begins.
After their first look, it was time for their ceremony. Lizzie met Ben at the altar, exchanging vows in the state park’s most beautiful outdoor setting. They were surrounded by family and friends as they shared their personal vows with each other.
Next, it was time for cocktail hour and time for photos with the bride and groom! There were SO many beautiful locations to choose from throughout the State Park. I love shooting outdoors and just letting the bride and groom shine in front of the most gorgeous natural settings. The love that these two share shines through on camera, which made my job easy!
Finally, it was time for the reception! Their reception was an outdoor venue that was decorated from top to bottom with the most colorful decor! Much of the decor was handmade by the bride and her family, making it even more special! There were speeches, dancing, food, and lots of memories! Overall, it was a perfect day from start to finish!
I loved getting to know these two as a couple and having the opportunity to capture their wedding day! If you are planning a wedding in Indiana, be sure to reach out! I would love to hear what you are planning and see if there is a way for us to work together!
