Graduation is a huge milestone, and hiring a photographer to document it is one of the best decisions you can make. As a Bloomington portrait photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many seniors and IU grads over the years. We always have fun finding ways to highlight each graduate’s unique personality while celebrating such an exciting achievement. If you’ve been wondering how to make the most of your graduation photo session and walk away with images you truly love, you’re in the right place.

One of the most common questions I get is, “How many outfits can I wear during my session?” For an hour-long session, there’s typically time for two outfits plus cap-and-gown photos.
I recommend choosing looks that feel comfortable but elevated—something that reflects your personal style while still feeling polished. A dress, jumpsuit, or slacks with a button-down shirt and tie are all great options. You might also consider a classic white graduation outfit or incorporate your school’s colors for a meaningful touch.

Props are a great way to make your session feel unique. Think about items that represent your hobbies, interests, or accomplishments, like a guitar, a tennis racket, or a sign with your school and graduation year.
If you’re graduating with your bachelor’s or master’s degree, you could even bring a bottle of champagne to pop during your session. It’s all about celebrating your achievement and capturing the details that tell your story!

If we’re walking around campus, comfortable shoes are a must. You’ll want something that complements your outfit but also allows you to move easily across different surfaces.
The last thing you want is to be distracted by sore feet during your session. I typically recommend block heels, ballet flats, or a well broken-in pair of loafers—options that balance style and comfort.

Ready to document this incredible milestone? I’d love to work together on your graduation photo session! Whether you’re a high school senior or a future IU alum, your achievement deserves to be celebrated and preserved.
Reach out to inquire about details. I can’t wait to meet you and start dreaming up ways to make your session feel personal, meaningful, and fun.
