As an Indiana wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing celebrations at some of the state’s best wedding venues. However, one that always stands out from the pack is Clayshire Castle. This medieval-style bed-and-breakfast offers couples the chance to step into the ambiance of a bygone era while still enjoying luxurious amenities and the serene countryside of west-central Indiana.

A Fairytale Wedding Venue in Indiana
Clayshire Castle is one of those wedding venues that truly has to be seen to be believed. Arriving at the stone structure tucked into the rolling Indiana hills feels like being transported to the European countryside—or, better yet, into your favorite fairytale.
But the 10,000-square-foot castle isn’t the only attraction here. The grounds span more than 100 acres and are equally enchanting. With wooded walking trails, a hedge maze, and a tranquil pond, the property offers endless opportunities for exploration and photography.
Because Clayshire Castle also operates as a bed-and-breakfast, couples can easily turn their wedding into an overnight stay or even a full weekend getaway. On the day of your event, you can get ready either in the cozy basement space or in one of the upstairs guest rooms for an additional fee. Personally, I think the upstairs rooms are worth the splurge. They photograph beautifully and add even more charm to the experience.
Another favorite photography location of mine is the library. It feels straight out of Beauty and the Beast and makes the perfect setting for romantic couple portraits.
Weddings at Clayshire Castle
Clayshire Castle is best suited for intimate to mid-sized weddings, with a maximum guest capacity of 60. Couples can host their ceremony indoors in the Great Hall or outdoors beneath a tent on the lawn, depending on the atmosphere they envision for their day.
One detail I especially loved from Kathleen and Sam’s June 2024 wedding was their incorporation of an ancient handfasting ritual into the ceremony. It fit the medieval-inspired setting perfectly and created such a meaningful expression of their commitment to one another.
The Great Hall at Clayshire Castle
Without a doubt, the centerpiece of Clayshire Castle is the Great Hall. Ideally suited for both wedding ceremonies and receptions, this impressive yet intimate space features soaring cathedral ceilings, iron chandeliers, and throne-like seating for the couple and wedding party.
Complete with a suit of armor and medieval-style tapestries, the Great Hall captures the atmosphere of old-world revelry. At the same time, it still provides the comfort and convenience of a modern wedding venue.
