My 5 Favorite Photography Spots at Indiana University

Education

As a Bloomington wedding and portrait photographer, one of my favorite places to take photos is the Indiana University campus! I’ve had the honor of shooting weddings, engagement sessions, and senior portraits there. The campus boasts classic architecture and beautiful green spaces, so it’s easy to find stunning photo backdrops. Today, I’m revealing my five favorite photography spots at Indiana University. I’m also sharing some of the highlights from Jamie and Evan’s engagement session there!

My Favorite Photography Spots at Indiana University

Maxwell Hall Courtyard

Location #1 is the Maxwell Hall Courtyard! This serene spot features limestone walls, greenery, and a bubbling fountain in the warmer months. Whether I’m photographing a senior or a couple, we always pause here for a bit. It’s an oasis of calm amid the hustle and bustle of campus!

Rose Well House

Next is the Rose Well House, one of the oldest structures on IU’s campus and a popular spot for marriage proposals. It’s a campus tradition to kiss here at midnight, said to ensure a relationship’s longevity! The gazebo-style structure exudes romance, making it an ideal spot for engagement and bridal portraits. While it’s stunning year-round, my favorite time to take photos at the Rose Well House is in the fall, when colorful foliage surrounds it.

Indiana University Memorial Courtyard

If you’re like me, when you think of IU’s campus, you picture limestone walls! That iconic sight is on full display at the IU Memorial Courtyard, also connected to The Biddle Hotel. However, this spot can get busy when classes are in session. If you want photos here, it’s best to schedule them during the winter or summer break.

Bryan House Woods

The Bryan House at Indiana University, traditionally the home of IU’s president, is a sight to behold. But the woods surrounding it might be even more lovely! I love spending part of a portrait session here, exploring the many winding paths and bridges. From certain angles, it’s impossible to tell that we’re in the heart of Bloomington!

Sample Gates

Is there a more iconic sight at IU than the Sample Gates? Long considered symbolic of the university, this spot welcomes students and visitors alike to the campus. It also boasts a great view of the surrounding neighborhood! Taking photos here is a must whenever I’m working with a senior or with a couple who are alumni.
