This February wedding at the Indiana Statehouse was all about family! The bride and groom share two kiddos, ages eight and two, who were part of their ceremony. Their son was the ringbearer, and their daughter was the flower girl! I was so glad I was there to capture this special day for them.
When the couple first met through mutual friends, it was love at first sight. Alexa knew right away that Matthew would be the one! They started dating soon after, and the rest is history. Alexa’s first instinct turned out to be spot-on!
Wedding at the Indiana Statehouse
The elegant interior of the Indiana Statehouse made the perfect setting for Alexa and Matthew’s wedding day. While the venue felt grandiose, the day had an intimate ambiance. The couple wanted nothing more than to enjoy time with family to celebrate and cherish forever. The family they’ve created is their whole world, and they were so excited to become each other’s husband and wife! Their extended family shared their excitement, and there was love in the air all day long.
After exchanging vows and rings in their ceremony, the couple participated in the African-American wedding tradition of jumping the broom. Originating in Ghana, the practice is said to ward off evil spirits and is also a way for Black brides and grooms to show solidarity with their ancestors.
Then, I whisked the happy couple away for portraits! With its high ceilings, stately pillars, and soft, warm lighting, the Statehouse is a picture-perfect venue. Alexa and Matthew’s joy shone through in every photo, and I know they’ll cherish these images forever. We also snapped some portraits outside the venue for a more urban feel.
It was an honor to document Alexa and Matthew finally uniting as one. They have such a sweet love story, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings for their family!
