Kayla and Cory have a love story straight out of a rom-com. They met at their friends’ wedding when they were the Maid of Honor and Best Man! They were fast friends, and after that, it wasn’t long before they fell in love. Now, they share two cats, Sif and Noodles, and love to travel and try new coffee shops together. I loved being their wedding photographer this past October! The celebration at Whippoorwill Hill brought together the beautiful fall foliage and historic barn setting for a rustic, romantic wedding day.
Bloomington Barn Wedding Venue
Jeff Lucas and Anne Fields Lucas established Whippoorwill Hill in 2016. They purchased the property as their family farm but decided its history was too significant to keep to themselves! Through a careful disassembly, refurbishment, and reassembly process, they transported the 124-year-old Russell Barn onto the property. Thus, this unique Bloomington wedding venue was born! The couple even hosted their nuptials inside the barn when it was still a timber shell. Today, the property is a working farm and the setting for countless weddings and events with that authentic Southern Indiana charm.
Fall Wedding at Whippoorwill Hill
Kayla and Cory chose to take advantage of the indoor and outdoor spaces at Whippoorwill Hill. Their ceremony was outdoors, overlooking the colorful fall foliage in the distant woods. Afterward, I whisked them away for their portraits, which looked so beautiful with the backdrop of the yellow and orange leaves! With the historic barn structure also visible behind the happy couple, the images encapsulated the day perfectly.
Next was their reception inside The Russell Barn. Now a fully weatherproof structure with a concrete floor, lofted ceiling, and rustic chandeliers, it was the perfect place to come in from the chill and celebrate. The couple and their guests ate at tables laid with purple linens, gold charger plates, and arrangements of blush roses and mauve astrantia flowers. Then, they danced the night away with costume shutter shades and LED light-up wands!
I had so much fun documenting Kayla and Cory’s Whippoorwill Hill wedding! Love was in the air all day, from the laughter-filled ceremony to the emotional parent dances.
