Bridal Session Tips: How to Prepare for a Successful Shoot

Wedding Tips

As an Indiana wedding photographer, I love shooting bridal sessions! I relish this opportunity to get to know a bride better and help her feel like her most beautiful self. If you are a bride considering booking one of these sessions, I encourage you to go for it. This is one of the most exciting chapters of your life, so why not document it to the fullest? Read on to discover why these sessions are for every bride, and to get my top bridal session tips.

Why Should Brides Book a Bridal Session?

A bridal session is the perfect opportunity to showcase your dress (and your beautiful self!). After all, it’s not every day you get to wear a wedding dress. Booking a bridal session will ensure you have at least one other opportunity to rock your investment besides your wedding day. Still on the fence? My Top Three Bridal Session Tips

Schedule Your Session Before Your Wedding Day

I suggest scheduling your bridal session at least one month before your wedding day to ensure you are as relaxed as possible. This is also the perfect time to book your hair and makeup trial if you haven’t already done so. Plus, you can practice being in front of the camera to ensure you feel like your most confident self when the big day arrives!

Don’t fear if scheduling your bridal session before your wedding day won’t work out! We can craft your wedding day timeline to allow enough time for a mini-bridal session.

Purchase Your Gown and Complete Preparations Early

Your gown needs to be ready for your bridal session: altered, hemmed, and steamed. Since the session will (most likely) occur before your wedding day, this means moving up the conventional timeline; you’ll need to purchase your gown sooner so that alterations finish sooner. I suggest shopping for your gown 9-12 months in advance to allow plenty of time for the bridal salon to order, receive, and alter it.

Add Flowers for That Extra-Special Feel

Consider asking your florist to provide flowers for your bridal session! There’s nothing like the beauty and pop of color flowers add to a portrait session, especially one featuring a bride. You might “trial” your wedding day bouquet or carry a unique arrangement featuring different colors, textures, or varieties. Either way, flowers will add that special something to your bridal portraits.
