Ellen and Tony hired me to photograph their surprise elopement in Indianapolis after I shot their close friend’s wedding in Michigan. We quickly connected after they showed me a photo I had taken of them at that wedding!
They shared their plans for an intimate elopement surprising both sets of parents, and I was instantly on board. I gave them a few location suggestions for their vow exchange, with options for convenient portrait locations nearby. In the end, they settled on the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park as the ceremony location and Newfields, an art museum here in Indianapolis, as the portrait location. It was a beautiful day focused entirely on their love story, and I’m so glad I could capture it!
Surprise Elopement in Indianapolis
Ellen and Tony’s elopement day kicked off with their parents’ arrival at the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park. When they saw the couple’s attire, it wasn’t long before they figured out what was happening! Hugs were shared all around, and the joy and anticipation in the air were palpable.
While the couple’s ceremony had a rainy start, the clouds quickly cleared to make way for a gorgeous spring day. The two exchanged handwritten vows as their parents looked on, before sharing their long-awaited first kiss as husband and wife! Then, it was time for the portrait session at Newfields, just half a mile from the park.
Bridal Portraits at Newfields
Newfields is the cutest little art museum, with gardens full of colorful flowers on the grounds. Since Ellen and Tony’s elopement was in May, it was the perfect time to shoot there! After they greeted and received congratulations from their siblings outside the museum, I whisked them away into the heart of the gardens. The lush surroundings and classic architectural features made for perfect backdrops to the happy couple.
While Indianapolis boasts no shortage of beautiful locations for portraits, Newfields is one of my favorites. It’s also one of my clients’ favorite places for engagement sessions! While I haven’t photographed a wedding there yet, it’s on my bucket list. Are you planning an Indianapolis wedding? If you’re in the market for a photographer, I would love to connect with you!
